Jill Pears —

Tena koutou nga whanau, nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa,

Pet Day this morning has been stunning - a range of animals greeting each other the way animals do, followed by a Bake Sale raising $222.10 for SPCA. Thank you so much to all who contributed to this fabulous event.

During the past couple of weeks we have had a large number of students compete in the Zones. Thanks Tracey for you organisation of this. A record number of students achieved so well they will be attending the Canterbury competition. Enviroschools Canterbury came to the school to work on the Waste Audit with the Green Diamonds. They have been doing this for a number of years now so we have the ability to track our data, discuss trends and identify areas we need to improve. I am pleased to report we are continuing to see a reduction in the amount of waste that goes to the landfill. One area identified for improvement is GOOS paper! This is paper that is still Good On One Side and classes will be asked to ensure paper is used on both sides, before it goes into the recycling.

The current Unit of Inquiry, based around the concept of Hauora has been enjoyed by students and teachers alike. I enjoyed watching students last night who were practising their skating and scootering skills on the newly developed jumps - developed as an outcome from their Hauora inquiry. Next week, Thursday afternoon we will have a sharing session where each Inquiry group will briefly share about their focus, with the purpose of understanding how a range of activities can increase our Hauora or wellbeing.

The pool is looking great - swimming will be starting soon. Please make sure your children have rash vests.  This is an important part of our sunsafe policy. Pool keys may be purchased now for after-hours use from 1 December. Please remember our sunsafe policy also includes covered shoulders at all times.

Upcoming activities include Year 5 & 6 sailing, Kids and Dads’ weekend and the Year 3 & 4 camp. There is lots of enjoy as we move closer to the end of the year.

Have a fabulous long weekend with your loved ones.

Ngā mihi nui,

Jill
