Book week

Fiona Rice —

Next week is book week, when we will celebrate our love of reading. Have you thought about a book character costume yet? Maybe you're keen to come along to our bedtime stories evening, or you'd like to share stories with your child's class. Don't forget to also check out the Scholastic book fair, which will run all week. Read on to find out details about what’s happening.

Wednesday 5th July: Book Character Parade

Our book character parade will take place at 9.00 am on Wednesday 5th July (not Friday, the day we usually have our parade on).  All students will dress up as book characters: I wonder how many we'll recognise? Don’t panic if you don't feel too creative or are short of time: a simple outfit can be very effective, and an accessory or two can really bring a book character to life. Children will be talking about their book characters in their classes.

Wednesday 5th July 6.30-7.30:  Bedtime stories and hot chocolate

Come along to the school library (Ruma Pukeko) in your dressing gowns and pyjamas on Wednesday evening, ready for some night time stories, which will be accompanied by a soothing hot chocolate. We would love to have some parents who would like to read stories to the children. Let us know if you are interested, or just come along armed with your favourite bedtime stories.

Friday 5th July 1.50pm: Book week assembly

At this last assembly of the term all classes will present a book week themed item. Come along and see what we have been up to. Please note earlier start time.

Monday 3rd -Friday 7th July: Scholastic Book Fair

daily 8.30-9.10 am, 2.45-3.15 pm Mon.-Thurs,   Friday 2.30-3.00 pm

During book week we are hosting a Scholastic Book Fair. We will display a range of new children's books that are available for purchase. They would be ideal as gifts or for simply passing on the love of reading to the children in your life. Please support this fundraiser for our school library. Please note that payments are to be made with orders, and we can accept cash, cheque or credit cards.

Anytime: Storytelling

Do you love books? Do you love telling stories? Would you like to to come into school and read stories with students? If the answer to these questions is “Yes”, we’d love to see you! Just have a chat with your child's class teacher to arrange this.

Book Week has many opportunities to share a love of reading, but think how great it would be if every week was book week. Please encourage your child to read as much as possible at home and enjoy sharing and discussing stories together. As well as being a pleasurable leisure activity, reading develops creativity, stimulates the imagination and is an excellent preparation for all future learning.
