Te Kohanga

Phillipa Fenemor —

In Te Kohanga we have been celebrating ‘Sea Week’ with many ocean based activities. One of our favourite activities was learning about a container of jandals and shoes that got lost off a container ship and the various countries where they ended up in. We then designed and made our own paper footwear as a STEM activity.

We have also loved having our visits with Keri and Harold from the Life Education Trust. We learnt about positive feelings that we want to ‘stay’ and negative feelings that can get ‘stuck’. We also learnt about ‘boosters’ and ‘bugs’. Boosts are when someone shows kindness and bugs are when someone does something that annoys us or doesn’t help us. We learnt things we can say and do, to help our friends out of cranky moods or to lose their bugs. Although, of course, the highlight of the lessons were seeing Harold and being able to briefly visit Harold’s bus to see his disco lights.  We have also been writing about our visit with Harold.
