Diamond Harbour School Redevelopment Programme - BoT property plan update December 2016
Diamond Harbour School is one of twelve schools on the Christchurch “re-build” programme for schools. We have been allocated a budget according to our roll and the state of our current buildings. Our re-development budget will likely allow for some renovations, upgrades and possible additions.
During 2015-2016 Eddie worked together with students, staff and the community to formulate a brief for our school, based on likes/dislikes about our school and what things they would like to see and/or any changes they would like at our school. The brief has been submitted to Ministry of Education who will assess it and allocate us with a team to work with to formulate a Masterplan. The Masterplan will consider our brief together with the budget and MoE priorities.
Summary of current update for Community:
- Education brief for our School has been
completed and submitted to the MoE for review.
- In early 2017 we will be allocated a team to
begin work on the Masterplan of our School, this will incorporate the education
brief and earlier consultation with students, staff and community of how they
wish to see the school improved.
- The Masterplan will establish and follow the
school’s clear vision. It incorporates as much of the brief as possible,
considers budget, MoE priorities which include the improvement of learning and
teaching spaces, the upgrade of infrastructure, support learning and teaching
spaces, administration and other (in that order of preference).
- A Masterplan is a design process and will be
communicated to the community throughout the different stages.
- Once the Masterplan is completed, developed
design and detailed design will take place (6-9 months).
- Realistically, the construction phase will
begin in early 2018, it is likely to be a staged process and the management of
temporary facilities will be needed, with completion sometime in 2019.
