Last Thursday our recorder, ukulele and xylophone groups performed in the Strum, Strike and Blow concert. This was a cumulation of weeks of work and rehearsals. During the day students travelled in to the Horncastle Arena to rehearse with all the other schools. The arena was full of strummers (ukuleles), strikers (tuned percussion) and blowers (recorders). As a whole ensemble the pieces were rehearsed. First the songs featuring the separate instrument groups were rehearsed and then the ensemble pieces that involved the whole group.

They were joined by singers, a rock band and most exciting of all the Bicycle Band. The original Bicycle Band was put together in 1898 by Fred Painter. Then in 2009, his great grandson, Brett Painter, a well known Christchurch musician reestablished the band. It consists of a range of musicians all who play their instruments while riding bicycles.

The students returned to the arena in the evening to perform for the audience. It was a fabulous evening full of music and fun.

Thank you to Fiona Rice who prepared the students up until the end of Term 2 and then Sally Craw and Jill Pears who took over the rehearsal responsibilities while Fiona was on leave.
