Need a hand to sort out sound and vision?

Andrew Metcalfe —

We don't usually advertise or recommend businesses in this kind of space, but we have been talking to two firms - Clarity Audio Visual and Anderson Pipe Organs around sound systems and organs.

Clarity AV is headed up by Mark Patterson, a local entrepreneur who is a Christian and has a good understanding of what churches need. Mark is also on St Paul's Cathedral (Dunedin) organ roster, and has carried out recent improvements to the organ there.

Mark is able to work with smaller - and larger - faith communities to help look at what you have, how you can use this better and give some independent advice on what would really make a difference. The end goal is not to replace everything you have, but to look at how you can get a system that actually works.

He is offering a no-obligation consultation on any needs you have, and is especially interested in smaller groups who may be struggling to be heard and seen in their environments. The main point of difference from other companies is his understanding of how things work in a church setting, versus others who may approach things from "conferencing" system perspectives.

Clarity is also able to work with you to improve your organ: current work includes working up some hybrid systems for existing pipe organs, making digital organs even more effective - with the future even offering systems that will help congregations play their organ remotely (and linked into slide shows with the words to hymns and songs).

Anderson Pipe Organs

Anderson Pipe Organs was founded in 2022 by Josh Anderson with the aim of providing high-quality tuning, maintenance and refurbishment services for pipe organs throughout New Zealand. Josh has a wide range of experience working with pipe organs of all different sizes and styles, both here in New Zealand and in the United Kingdom.

As an organist at St Mary’s Timaru, Josh has a broad understanding of church music and liturgy gained from time spent as an Organ Scholar in several churches and recognises how an organ should successfully fit in with these two important facets of church life.

No two pipe organs are ever the same and Josh is pleased to provide recommendations on the best solution to keep an instrument functioning to its full potential. He is also happy to collaborate with other companies on providing high quality hybrid organ systems.
