Te Reo Māori Resources Available

Rev'd Michael Hughes —

Tihei, Mauriora: Ki te wheiao, ki te ao mārama. NZPB, Nā te Whānau a te Karaiti, 499 (The breath and energy of life, in this world of life and light). Tēnā koutou katoa. Ngā mihi tino mahana ki a koutou mō tēnei wā. (Very warm greetings to you at this time).

Some early Māori recordings of Ngā Hākari Tapu, Liturgies of the Eucharist have been successfully digitised. These taonga (treasures) have captured the voices of Archdeacon Ben Te Haara, David and Tureiti Moxon, Meremere Penfold, and Te Miringa Wynyard, chanting the full Eucharistic Liturgy of the 476 service and the Māori text from the 404. Equally, the canticle Poi of the Midday Prayer on page 154, has its composer Sir Kingi Ihaka chanting it himself. These recordings form part of the earlier resource ELKIT: Education for Liturgy Kit, held at the John Kinder Library, Te Puna Atuatanga, in Auckland.

More recently, Archbishop-Emeritus John Paterson, Bishop George Connor, and the Rev’d Jacynthia Murphy, completed recording the 499 service also. Additionally, the newly revised PDF versions of Celebrating Common Prayer i te reo Māori have been made available.

The Common Life Liturgical Commission (CLLC) and General Synod Office are pleased to advise that all of the above resources are now available on the General Synod website within the Te Reo Māori Worship heading. They are uploaded in their full versions and for the purpose of teaching and learning, have been broken down into bite-size sections. We hope you will enjoy them and share them with the wider church and communities.

Nō reira, tēnei te mihi aroha ki a koutou, kia ora.

Regards

Michael Hughes (Rev’d)
