Palm Sunday Crosses

John Graveston —

Normally every year a small group of people comes together in churches to make the palm crosses that are given out on this coming Sunday. However, this year getting a group together isn't possible, so to find out how to make your own palm cross, keep reading

The next day the great crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, shouting,
“Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord the King of Israel!”
(John 12:12-13)

For centuries the church has been celebrating Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem by blessing palms on the Sunday before holy week. While we may be in uncertain times we can all still participate in this tradition by making our very own palm crosses.

There are many different ways to make a palm cross from the simple to the complex. Many of these can be found on YouTube by searching for palm crosses. We have attached two images that demonstrate two different ways.

One movement going around the world is for Christians to place a palm leave (or equivalent) at the front of their house on Palm Sunday. This would be a public acknowledgment of this important day in the Christian calendar. Find out more about this HERE
