Losing and Grieving
A video and resources from an on-line seminar with Alister Hendery.
The seminar reflected on our own experiences of loss and how we might support others who grieve. The session covered:
- We all lose and grieve – far more than we realise.
- What do we make of our grief?
- The way you grieve is utterly unique to you.
- What can we offer someone who is grieving?
- Where does God fit into the pain of grief?
- This seminar will offer you no saccharine ‘solutions’ to grief.
The video lasts for just under 90 minutes
Alister offered another path, built on his own experiences of loss as well as journeying with those who grieve. It’s a journey that may lead us to something new – to a new hope – a new meaning.
Alister is the author of:
- The Grief Walk: Losing, Grieving, and Journeying on to Something New (Philip Garside Publishing, Wellington, 2020) and;
- Earthed in Hope: Dying, Death, and Funerals (Philip Garside Publishing, Wellington, 2014)
He’s now working on a third book that focuses on the fact that you and I are going to die.
Alister is presently serving as a parish priest in Hastings, Hawkes Bay. Loss and grief have been a special focus of his ministry for over 40 years. As well as being a parish priest, Alister has served as a transitional priest – ministering with faith communities in times of change – as an educator, counsellor, and has specialised in funeral ministry.
