South Singing - for a weekend! October 3-4, 2025
We've been planning this for a while, and now it's going ahead. Sometimes it's good to do something together that is pure fun - especially if, on the side, it manages to help people and provide a bit of a learning experience at the same time!

We are inviting anyone who enjoys singing, whether or not you're any good at it, to come to Waipiata from Friday Oct 3rd, 6pm, to Sat Oct 4th, 4pm and enjoy opportunities to sing old favourites and new favourites together, while continuing to help our Scattered People of the Good Shepherd with their monthly online services.
On Saturday afternoon we'll take a break from recording to explore a choice of workshops.
a. Emma and Mark have a brilliant way of helping people who can't read music, get a handle on what's going on with those black dots on the paper. By the end of this workshop, you won't necessarily be "reading music" but you'll find those same black dots a help rather than a hindrance.
b. Congregational Song! How do we encourage our congregations to sing? What happens if we don't have a musician? How about learning new songs?
c. (Does anyone have another topic they'd like to lead a workshop on?)
Event Timing: Starting with 6pm dinner on October 3rd. Finishing 4pm (or a bit earlier) on Saturday 4th. It would be good to arrive a little earlier if you can to get settled in your room.
Event Venue: En Hakkore Retreat Centre, Orangapai Rd, Waipiata. Find it on google maps by clicking here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qTDt1yPSCpRBoErB7 .
En Hakkore charges an amazingly good rate for great food and reasonably basic accommodation. Don't expect luxury! We need to bring our own sheets, pillow case and towel, and if you need a power point in your room for health reasons, do indicate that in the questions below, as only a few rooms have one. However, it is in a beautiful part of our country, the food is cooked with love, and we really enjoy our diocesan events there.
The cost will work out at $80 per head for accommodation and 3 meals, plus morning and afternoon tea and biscuits for supper. PLEASE IF THIS COST MEANS YOU DECIDE NOT TO COME, EMAIL ANNE. There is some scope for subsidising people, so don't feel embarrassed! If you want to come, we'd like you to come.
REGISTRATIONS CLOSE on Sept 20th but it would be really helpful to know as soon as possible, so we know how many accommodation rooms we need to reserve.
