Other Diocesan Organisations

Every now and then we are asked by Diocesan Organisations if we know anyone who would consider becoming a Trustee and assist with Governance. To make this easier we have developed an orientation letter that helps people see where they fit into governance roles within the wider Church... and has links to other useful resources. This is also worth a read if you are already serving on a Board as a Trustee.

We have two vacancies for the Dunedin Diocesan Trust Board (DDTB) trustees. If you want to find out more information about how the DDTB operates, what it does, and the skill mix required in the Board, see this article

There are also vacancies on the Home of St Barnabas Trust in Dunedin. They are particularly looking for someone who has some expertise in finance/accounting.

Diocesan Committees

The Diocesan Council has four committees which help set  the direction for what we do. If you feel God might be nudging you to serve on one of these, contact the person identified below and have a chat. We currently have two vacancies on the Social Justice Committee  - please get in touch with Jan Clark if you have an interest in this area.

The Ministry Committee has an internal focus on nurturing the people of the Diocese, currently involved in lay and ordained ministry in parishes and faith communities, in body, mind and spirit. Nurturing ministry involves theological education, ministry formation, personal and spiritual development, so that people are enabled to be effective followers of Christ and to perform acts of ministry. Current Contact: The Ven Anne van Gend

The Mission Committee has an external focus on supporting future church development and faith initiatives with new Christian responses for reaching and serving communities. It’s like the ‘research and development’ team - experimenting, innovating, and supporting those who are already working to generate new faith communities or initiatives. Current chair: Mrs Dot Muir

The Social Justice Committee has a primary focus mainly on the prophetic role of the Church around social justice and service in and with the community. Its focus is around the effective contribution of existing and new Church-initiated services and activities for social transformation. It provides a space for strengthening collaboration between Church-initiated services around their future sustainability, impact and links with other parish and Diocesan work. It also makes recommendations to Diocesan Council regarding the payment of grants from Diocesan trust funds. Current Contact: The Ven Jan Clark

The Stewardship Committee is the engine room, providing the capacity for all the other work, and ensuring that resources flow to where they are most needed to support the strategic direction of the Diocese. Its primary focus is on ensuring good stewardship and sound management of the finances, property and the people directly employed in the Diocesan office, who play a central management role. Current Chair: Mr Steve Mitchell.

Appointments to committees are ratified by the Diocese of Dunedin Trusts Board (Diocesan Council) - if you want to formally apply, contact the Registrar, Andrew Metcalfe. We would appreciate a letter from you outlining why you are interested in being part of a committee and what you feel you might bring to the group. You will also need to complete and include a Declaration of Adherence for Trust Boards (but we don't require a Charity's declaration for committee members).
