Leslie Groves Taieri Ward Extension
The extension to the Taieri Ward of the Leslie Groves Wakari Hospital is well advanced and on track to be completed by early September.
This extension will provide a further 4 D6 Level Psychogeriatric beds, two additional lounges, a staff office, sluice room and small kitchenette.
These additions along with a replacement of floor coverings throughout ward will bring significant improvements, allowing for a separation of residents for recreational activities and care. A recent donation of $10,000 from the Diocesan Social Justice Committee towards the cost of installing a Hygienic Diffuser in the Sluice Room was much appreciated.
As well, thanks to a “Green Loan” from the ANZ Bank and a $40,000 grant from the Alexander McMillan Trust, a considerable cost saving has resulted for the installation of two woodchip boilers and a standby generator.
This has enabled Leslie Groves Hospital to decouple from the present costly hot water supply from the Wakari Hospital Boiler, ensuring that in the event of a loss of electricity from the local provider our residents would not be without heating or hot water.
