Day 3 of Synod: 22 November 2024

Andrew Metcalfe/Bishop Ross Bay —

Information on the Third Day of Synod 2024 before the Electoral College Eucharist: copies of attached information in this article will be available at Synod.

The only business of this Session will be the Third Reading of the Bills passed on 14 September 2024 that were omitted on the day.

As Electoral College members are also Synod Members, the easiest way to do this is to constitute a Third Day for Synod and complete the Third Reading (and ratification) as follows:

Third Reading of Bill No 3

The President moves confirmation of Bill No: 3 – A Bill to amend Statute 15 “The Clergy Pension and Benevolent Fund Statute 1988 (2006)”.

Third Reading of Bill No 4 –

The President moves confirmation of this Bill No. 4  - A Bill to amend Statute 26 "The Dunedin Diocesan Trust Board Amendment Statute 2022".

This should only take a few moments before the Electoral College Eucharist (which will take place at St John's Roslyn at 6.30 pm on Friday 22 November 2024). We can then concentrate on the important work of the Electoral College.

Te summons to this Synod from our Bishops' Commissary, Bishop Ross Bay, is found at the end of the attached order paper.

Order of Proceedings: Third Day, Friday 22 November 2024

(also attached below, includes Motions for this session and a reminder of the Bills being ratified)

  • The formal Constitution of Synod, the announcement of a Quorum,  Leaves of Absence

  • A brief procedural motion authorising the Diocesan Registrar to minute these proceedings

  • Third Reading of Bills (from Day 2, 14 September 2024)

  • Conclusion of Synod with Prayer.

(The Electoral Synod will take place immediately before the Electoral College Eucharist)
