Nourishing Faith: Food for the Journey
Here are links to the latest Gospel Conversations and other resources ... plenty to nourish and inspire.
Have a listen to "One in Christ’, by George Arthur: ‘When we were still far off, you met us in Your Son’. As you pray, notice the work of reconciliation God is doing in your life at the moment. It might be slow, but become aware of Christ’s work, even in the small details.
"When we were still far off you met us in your Son and brought us home.
Dying and living you declared your love and opened the gate of glory."
Gospel Old Testament Conversations
In this week’s Gospel Conversation, Jerry Morris, Lisa Emmerson and Grace Morris join Michael Godfrey to reflect on Isaiah’s words of hope to a people who have hit rock bottom. They explore God’s enduring faithfulness and the challenge of looking beyond simply restoring what was, towards something new — bigger, kinder and broader — as people called to be a light to the nations.
Lisa’s closing quotation on hope is from Ben Swihart: “Hope without action is surely delusional or dead. Very rarely do things just “turn out okay.” If you’ve ever watched a person needlessly die, you know how ridiculous it is to believe the moral arc of the universe is affected by some passive gravitational pull… The hope that this moment calls for is not anaemic, or trite, or vapid. It is not optimism. It is not only realizing that things don’t need to be this way, but a refusal to let them stay this way. It is an acid, rooted in love, that eats prison bars.”

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time – Te Rātapu Rua Tekau o He Wā Noa, Sunday 16 August 2026: Isaiah 56:6–8
In last week's Gospel Conversation, Anne van Gend, Wendy Scott and Michael Holdaway join Michael Godfrey to explore Isaiah's vision of God's house as "a house of prayer for all peoples". Together they reflect on God's call to welcome those once considered outsiders, and what it means for today's Church to become a place of prayer, joy and belonging for all.

About Gospel Conversations - Old Testament
"Gospel Conversations - Old Testament" are informal discussions about the Old Testament reading coming up the following Sunday in our lectionaries. We gather (usually) a range of people to take part, from around our diocese, our Province, and the wider Anglican Communion: clergy, laity, theologians, explorers. We are not all experts, we don't all agree with everything that is said, but we hope that by putting a range of ideas out there for you, this might aid your personal devotions, your sermon preparation, or your home group.
Podcast from Bishop Kelvin
Have a look at a new podcast from +Kelvin Wright. He says: At the moment it contains only five episodes. Four of these are my talks from the "3 in 1” series which has been running on Sunday evenings in St Michael’s church. One is a short piece on why meditation might be a good thing for Christians. I will be adding content on at least a weekly basis, initially around meditation, aiming to help people establish and continue a deeper inner journey. I will also publish more generally Biblical and theological talks from time to time...
