A Gift That Keeps On Giving Thanks

Andrew Metcalfe —

On 6 June a small service was held at the Balfour RSA to say thanks ... and to give thanks to God by using a new communion set given in memory of Mrs Deborah Turner.

When Balfour church was secularised in May, a number of key people were unable to attend due to COVID-19 isolation requirements, so this was an opportunity for some who couldn't gather then to meet, give thanks and to use a new communion set. This chalice and paten will be used for smaller Eucharistic services - such as this one - held in people's homes and other venues. What makes the set even more special is that Stan Fissenden of the Gore Woodturners group generously designed and built a travelling box for all the vessels out of the wood from a bench in the Balfour Church Hall.

Rev'd Barbara Walker (Rural Chaplain) presided as this group met to remember Christ and give thanks for those who made such a gift possible.

Post script: John Turner, whose whose wife Deborah made the donation towards Balfour’s upkeep and which was used to purchase the chalice and paten, died on 6 June 2023. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
