This took place on Saturday 10 August with Simon Caley, the Chief Executive Officer of The Bishop's Action Foundation as the presenter. Read on to access resources from this workshop.

Simon offered this session in response to a request from the Diocese of Dunedin Trusts Board for training in governance for people who serve on our Boards and Trusts. Simon's sessions covered:

  1. Context and definitions – this will introduce the essence of our conversation and wrap around essential theology to help us locate the discussion;
  1. Life-cycle of organisations – an important 2nd stage to the context setting as we explore how organisations begin, develop, settle and ultimately either evolve or fade away. This will blend a mix of secular and Church focused material;
  1. Core governance workshop – we will use a very tried and tested work booklet from The Wheelhouse initiative  to work through the building blocks of good governance;
  1. Succession and future issue – a specific session looking at what the key issues are that governance needs to be responding to (low emissions, growing influence of millennials, ever increasing digital / technology developments etc) and why these should be driving effective succession planning strategies around board tables;
  1. Decision making – a specific focus on this including the failings of discernment
