Colin Gibson MNZM - Rest In Peace

Colin Gibson died in Dunedin on 10 December 2022, leaving behind a unique legacy of hymns and music that have left a significant mark in the faith landscape of Aotearoa - New Zealand.

He was born in Dunedin and wrote hymn texts and hymn settings for over 20 years. His works have been published and performed in Africa, the United States, Asia and Australasia, Great Britain and Europe. He was organist and director of the Mornington Methodist Choir in Dunedin, a lay preacher, and retired in 1999 as Head of the Department and Donald Collie Professor of English at the University of Otago where he headed the Department of Theatre Studies and continued to lecture on English Literature as Emeritus Professor. He conducted numerous hymn workshops in New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain, and was co-editor of a number of hymn collections.

Colin's funeral is taking place at 2 pm on Monday 19 December at Hope and Sons, 523 Anderson's Bay Road Dunedin, and a livestream of this is available here
