A response to the Royal Commission report on Abuse in Care
We have a further update on how the wider Anglican Communion in Aotearoa-New Zealand's response to the Royal Commission.
Nationwide Response
Please find attached the Anglican Church’s latest Archbishop's response to the Royal Commission’s findings of fault against the Church (25 November 2024), along with an earlier statement from 24 September 2024. This is being published by the Church further to the Commission’s recommendation 130. Please feel free to share this with your organisations and communities.
You may have seen that the Government made an apology to survivors this month, which included the following comments:
The Government will provide its full response to the Royal Commission’s recommendations early next year.
The Government intends to have a new single redress system operating next year.
A reminder that The Royal Commission’s recommendations ask for six different strands of response. In summary those strands are as follows:

Mandatory Training for Leaders and Staff
Establishment of Independent Mechanisms in relation to complaints
Offering Support and Compensation for Survivors
Enhanced Accountability and Reporting Requirements
Cultural and Structural Reforms
