Ecumenical and Interfaith Opportunities
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
This important global ecumenical event has been celebrated by Christians of many traditions since 1908. In Aotearoa New Zealand the Week runs from Ascension to Pentecost (May 29 – June 8).
The prayers and reflections for 2025 Week of Prayer were prepared by the brothers and sisters of the monastic community of Bose in northern Italy. This year marks the 1,700th anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council, held in Nicaea, near Constantinople in 325 AD. This commemoration provides a unique opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the common faith of Christians, as expressed in the Creed formulated during this Council. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025 offers an invitation to draw on this shared heritage and to enter more deeply into the faith that unites all Christians
The resources are published by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches. The global resources can be found here:
The National Dialogue for Christian Unity will prepare an Aotearoa-New Zealand resource closer to the date.
TPEG encourages Anglicans in Aotearoa New Zealand to look at the resources which have been prepared, and to join with our sisters and brothers of other traditions in celebrating the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025.
Interfaith relationships
Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting and prayer began on 28 February and runs to 20 March. Ramadan is an excellent opportunity to build relationships with the Muslim community. TPEG encourages Anglicans to offer hospitality or greetings to Muslim neighbours during Ramadan.
TPEG affirms the value of local interfaith pilgrimages, TPEG encourages Anglicans to participate in visits to local places of worship, and to offer hospitality and welcome to neighbours from other faiths.
