Peer Support Program Supports Transition for Year 7 Students
As we embark on this new school year, we want to celebrate the spirit of collaboration and support that defines our school community. The Peer Support Program stands as a testament to our dedication to nurturing the growth and well-being of every student. The initiative is designed to assist and welcome our newest additions to the school community – the Year 7 students.
Transitioning from primary school to high school can be a significant milestone, often accompanied by a mix of excitement and nervousness. Recognising the importance of a smooth transition, our school has implemented the Peer Support Program to ensure that our Year 7 students feel supported and ready to embark on this new chapter.
The Peer Support Program is a collaborative effort involving selected Year 10 students who have undergone training to become leaders. These older students act as mentors and friends to the Year 7 students, offering guidance, reassurance, and a friendly face during their initial weeks.
Throughout the term our Peer Support Leaders will engage in a variety of activities aimed at fostering a positive and inclusive environment. From organised icebreaker games to group discussions, the program encourages communication, teamwork, and the development of lasting friendships. The Year 7 students not only benefit from the guidance of their leaders but also have the opportunity to connect with their peers in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
By connecting with older students who have successfully navigated the challenges of high school, Year 7 students gain valuable insights, advice, and a sense of comfort as they acclimate to their new surroundings.
We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of the Peer Support Program on our Year 7 students and the broader school community.
