Welcome to Yr 12, a Big Year Ahead

Mr D Quaglia, Yr 11 (12) Advisor, Teacher, English —

The group has approached their studies thus far with an incredible sense of maturity and dedication, that if maintained throughout the year, will not only mean their academic success, but also a sense of closeness and camaraderie that everyone hopes for in their final year of high school.

I imagine that we have shared a similar and equally measured sense of shock and excitement that the Year 12 cohort of 2023 are already about to finish their first term of Year 12.

However, many of the normal stresses that one would associate with the beginning of the Year 12 year have quickly been put to ease.

My colleagues (at least in the Standard English teaching group) have found ourselves constantly on the phone with parents celebrating the successes of the students, which must be one of the greatest aspects of the job, and we hope to have most parents on speed dial by the end of the HSC!

The most recent election of the Captains, Vice Captains, Creative and Performing Arts Ambassador, SRC and Prefects was an exciting time. I cannot understate how challenging it was for the school to go about selecting just a few to lead, when we’re lucky to have so many incredibly capable leaders. My sincerest congratulations goes out to all who were chosen as part of the team, but also all of the year group for the pride and energy in which they celebrated their peers during this time.

As we look to the summer holidays, I strongly encourage the Year 11 (now 12) group to enjoy it as much as they can. Of course, progress must be made on major works, books must be read, some assessments will need to be completed. But as importantly, do whatever needs to be done to fill one’s cup and charge the batteries.

Next year is a massive year, and if you look after yourselves these holidays, then you’ll be able to give it everything over the following three terms.

Have the most wonderful break and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Mr Quaglia.
