A busy year lies ahead for our Year 11 students but their wellbeing will be a focus

Ms Leggett, Year Advisor, Year 11 —

The 2023 Year 11 cohort have had a strong start to the academic year at Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design. Here is a rundown of some of the interesting things we have been doing:

In the first few weeks of school, Year 11 have been busy with finalising subject choices, school photos, excursions, the formation of the Year 12 Jersey Committee and issuing of assessment tasks. It has been impressive for me as Year Advisor to see students stepping up to these experiences, take responsibility for their learning and apply themselves diligently to their senior years of schooling.

Year 11 Homeroom teachers and I have made a considerable effort to focus on wellbeing by ensuring our students feel they belong to DHSVAD. Our year meetings are focused around building strong communities with our peers, teachers, and wider school community. To support this, staff from across the school were invited to share a word that they believe best describes our year 11s. The collation of these responses illustrates clearly how valued our students are by their teachers.

To support students, KEYS sessions are teaching study skills. We also hope to explore perseverance and resilience to facilitate students as they prepare for the demands of year 12. Parents and guardians can also support our students by continuing to encourage high attendance and engage with the assessment schedule.

It is a privilege to be the year 11 Advisor this term. If there is anything I can do to further support our students, please do not hesitate to contact me.
