Year 9 students take on great initiatives

Mr Oakden, Year 9 Advisor —

Year 9 have had a productive term, getting involved in several initiatives around the school to enhance their learning and growth.

Some of these wonderful initiatives include Art Stream and Visual Art students attending hands-on workshops for ArtMonth. The Raise mentoring team have also continued their work in our school, offering mentoring to foster good choices and strong patterns of study, as well the opportunity to attend the Raise Youth Summit.

In addition our Koori Club has been having regular meetings, promoting a positive cultural identity and community within our school’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Congrats to our new year 9 SRC representatives!

Big shout out to our new SRC representatives, Geli, Sunny, Alwin and Elliot, who are working with the wider SRC team to look for constructive opportunities to create change within our school and local community.

Wear it Purple Day

On Friday 26 August our school was transformed into a sea of colour as teachers and students dressed up for Wear It Purple day. Our school raised over 900 dollars for charity ‘Minus 18’ who endeavour to support young LGBTIQ+ peoples in our community.

Romeo and Juliet Excursion

On the 17 August, Year 9 students attended a showing of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet at The Seymour Centre followed by lunch in Victoria Park. We were happy to be able to offer our students an opportunity to see the play that they will be studying in Term 4, as it was supposed to be viewed (on the stage!).

Year 9 showcased our school’s respectful nature through their fantastic behaviour inside and outside of the theatre. Well done Year 9!
