A Memorable Year for Year 9 Students

Ms Georgopoulos, Year 9 Year Advisor —

As 2024 comes to a close, we take a moment to reflect on an inspiring and eventful year for our Year 9 students at Dulwich High School of Visual Arts & Design.

It has been a year filled with creativity, leadership and a strong sense of community. Let’s celebrate some of the highlights as we look forward to an exciting Year 10 in 2025!

One of the standout moments of the year, for me personally, was the Year 9 Leadership Camp held at Narrabeen. This was packed with team-building activities, and outdoor challenges, allowing students to develop confidence. The camp was a fantastic opportunity for students to grow as individuals while embracing their roles as leaders in our school community. The camp also helped support our Peer Support Training Days.

In November, the entire Year 9 cohort participated in a two-day Peer Support training workshop where they learned the skills needed to guide and mentor younger students. The day culminated in a fabulous newspaper fashion parade, showcasing creative designs made entirely from recycled newspaper. Students worked together to craft their outfits, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and collaboration. A big thank you to Ms Mora who organised the event and the dedicated teachers who demonstrated to our Year 9s how to be effective communicators and leaders.

Creativity also flourished at this year’s Design Markets and the Dulwich Hill Festival, where participating students exhibited their artistic and design talents to the school community. It was a true showcase of innovation and skill. The Winter Gala and Evening at LazyBones Lounge performances added another layer of excitement, as our Year 9 students impressed audiences with their dedication and artistic expression in drama, music, and dance. We also had some great athletic performances from basketball, track and field and swimming this year.

This year, we also proudly welcomed our new principal, Mr Lance Raskall, to Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design. Mr Raskall’s leadership and vision have already enriched our school community, and we are excited to continue growing under his guidance in the years ahead.

As we wrap up the year, we are immensely proud of the Year 9 students for their creativity, leadership, and school spirit. Thank you for making 2024 a memorable and inspiring year. We wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday.
