Principal's Report - Some of our great school achievements and initiatives during Term 1

Ms Dracopoulos, Principal —

A message from our Principal Ms Dracopoulos

Wellbeing

Supporting and developing well-being for student groups, the community and individuals has been an important initiative at DHSVAD over the past several years. We have been successful in sourcing and strengthening supports beyond the school community which has been greatly appreciated by students, staff, parents and carers. We have also been successful in securing a new Head Teacher for our Well-being faculty, Ms Melissa Bean, who will joining us next term. We look forward to working with her and I am confident that her knowledge, contributions and approach to student well-being will be well received.

This term, we invited the Police Youth Liaison Officer to deliver a Cybersafety presentation to year 7 & 8 Students. Students were engaged with the presentation and look forward to Senior Constable Adam Taylor visiting us again. Following this, Barnardos will run a series of workshops with students to increase their awareness around vaping and consent.

Further to this, Mr Cucciniello from the PDHPE faculty has launched a boys mentoring program this year, for students in years 8 & 9 which specifically focuses on building confidence, peer relationships and positive behaviours. Mr Cucciniello is currently reaching out to the Canterbury Bulldogs team to develop a connection that can also help facilitate the boys program.

International Student Awards

I had the pleasure of attending the International Student Awards this year with Mr Konistis, who is our International Student coordinator.

This year, Khan Chi Nguyen, our 2022 Captain was nominated for her leadership at the NSW Government Schools International Student Awards ceremony held at the MCA. Kathy was nominated for her contributions and leadership within our school and her community. This ranged from fundraising for charities, supporting a variety of campaigns and volunteering. Congratulations to Kathy and her parents and carers for this nomination.

I would like to thank our students for making such great progress this term, especially in regards to attendance, as we know that this is a significant indicator of student success.

Wishing our whole school community a relaxing and rejuvenating school holiday.
