An update from our Mathematics Faculty

Mr Casimiro, Head Teacher Mathematics (Relieving) —

The Mathematics faculty is dedicated to making the study of Mathematics a relevant and engaging experience for all students. Here is an update regarding all things Mathematics at DHSVAD.

As always, students are required to come to their maths class with equipment ready to learn. They are also required to complete unfinished classwork at home. All classes use Google Classroom as a platform to access assessment schedule, notifications, scope and sequence and other learning materials.

In Year 7 and 8, all students work towards the achievement of Stage 4 outcomes. It is acknowledged that students learn at different rates and in different ways, therefore, teachers at Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design differentiate curriculum to suit students’ learning.

In Year 9 and 10, students are placed in one of three different substages 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 classes. Teachers at different stages will extend students depending on their level of knowledge. This means that even if a student is in a 5.2 class, the teacher may decide to teach some 5.3 outcomes. This applies to all substages. Students are placed in the class depending on their progress and grades gained in the previous years. Throughout the current year, students will be given the opportunity to improve their Mathematics skills, grades and achievements. Accordingly, different placement in classes will be determined and offered, as appropriate.

In Year 11 and 12, to complete Mathematics Advanced or Extension, students are encouraged to have studied 5.3 in Year 9 and 10. For students to complete Mathematics Standard, students are encouraged to have studied 5.2 in Year 9 and 10.

In 2023, the classes have been divided in substages such as;

All year 7-10 students have either a Mangahigh or Mathspace login, which is an interactive technology to enhance their Mathematics knowledge and skills. We require all students to participate with this program, which costs $15. This can be paid through the Finance Office.

All students have access to an online textbook, which can be accessed using Google Incognito Mode and with no ad-blocking software through;
