Dulwich High School of Visual Arts & Design —

What a great attitude to start a new school year

I'm so impressed with the way our Year 7 and 8 students have embraced the challenges of the new school year. New friendships are being forged as they settle into the routines of engaging with learning and managing of tasks. It is a pleasure to be supporting these wonderful young people

Some upcoming events

Camp: Organisation for the Yr 7 camp is underway and information will be sent home soon. It is one of the highlights of the school year where new friendships are formed and grow.

Harmony Day: On March 24 we will join the rest of Australia to celebrate and recognise the  diversity that brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.

This year the theme is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. At DHSVAD we will have international food stalls, a talent quest and we encourage students to come in cultural dress if they want to. Overall it is always a fun and inspiring day.

Extra curricula activities

In week four we held our extra curricula marketplace, it was an opportunity to showcase the range of clubs and ensembles that are available for our students to get involved in. There really is something for everyone to get involved in or to just give something new a go. I strongly encourage all students to sign up, whether it be for a sport team, music ensemble, dance or drama.

Student support and well-being:

Our Junior students are supported by wonderful Year Advisors Mr Johnson, Yr 7 and Ms Georgopoulos Yr 8. The main objective of the Year Advisor is to look after the well-being of all students in the year group. There will be times in every student's school life where they will need extra support to cope with the stresses that arise both in and out of school.

The Year Advisor can be accessed during school time to help with the following:

  • Provide a point of contact for parents with questions or concerns regarding their child.
  • Be contacted to organise work for students if they are away for substantial periods of time.
  • Be asked to provide progress reports on students or organise meetings with staff in certain circumstances.

The Year Advisor has regular contact with students:

  • At regular year meetings.
  • During general catch ups in the playground during lunch times.
  • When organising special events that involve the year group.
  • During excursions.
