What do we do?

Our education team provides free professional learning about road safety education to teachers in NSW public schools.

We tailor professional learning support around your school’s needs by:

  • Working with small groups of schools on road safety education projects and initiatives to
  • Address local school community road safety concerns
  • Facilitating workshops for primary and secondary teachers about best practice road safety education as part of PDHPE K-10 syllabuses, Stage 6 Crossroads and student wellbeing programs
  • Assisting teachers to program teaching and learning activities using the latest resources, as well as how to access these free resources
  • Guiding schools on how to use local road safety resources to proactively develop a culture of everyone being a safe road user in the school community
  • Supporting principals and teachers with road safety issues in and around schools
  • Providing advice to principals and teachers about implementing the Department’s Road Safety Education, Driver Education and Training Policy.

Why do we do it?

We are funded by Transport for NSW to help NSW public schools implement road safety because we all want children and young people in NSW to be safer road users, now and into the future. We aim to achieve this through assisting schools to use a whole-school approach to effective road safety education by:

  • improving quality teaching of the curriculum
  • creating and maintaining a supportive culture, environment and policy
  • engaging and liaising with parents, carers and the school community.

A whole-school approach to road safety education is where schools, parents, carers and communities work together to make and sustain a supportive environment for students to learn, understand and practice road safety.
