Meet our 2023 school captains

Holly B and James I, School Captains 2023 —

This year's school captains Holly and James, have given us an update on their new roles so far and what projects they will be working on over the next several months.

Hello parents, carers, and anyone who actually reads the newsletter, we’re Holly B and James I and we’re honoured to be the 2023 captains for DHSVAD. It’s only the start of the year and the amazing SRC have already undertaken many steps to achieve our goals for the year, and worked on a variety of projects. An example of such an effort would be assisting the year 12 cohort in a resoundingly successful bake sale to raise money to fund a yearbook initiative started by some of our very own classmates.

All of these delicious baked goods were made by the students from year 12 as well as some generous donations from other members of the SRC. Altogether the event resulted in an amazing turnout that surely must of broken a Dully record for the most quantity of delicacies and profits. The sale raised over $1000 that saved our year group from having to splurge our hard earned savings and provided the rest of the student body with some delicious treats!

More recently too, on 23 February, the SRC and student leaders helped to run the school's annual swimming carnival. They assisted the teachers with timing the races, tallying the scores and generally raising school spirits through team chants and songs. Despite the unfortunate dreary weather, all the competitors managed to push through and had a great time competing. So too did everyone else spectating, cheering on their friends and their houses.

But this is only the beginning! As an integral part of the school’s community the SRC has many projects of which they will partake in in the upcoming term. As per usual we will be involved in coordinating events such as open night, the athletics carnival, and the parent/teacher conferences. On top of all those essential administration tasks the SRC has been organising the World’s Greatest Shave, a very important fundraising event we host annually.

We also have big plans to continue to create and organise fun opportunities for the student body, such as: Fun Friday events, bake sales, promoting our social and creative clubs, mufti days, and talks from a range of guest speakers and performers.

We both look forward to representing our school and working with the students to make 2023 a fun-filled year with opportunities for everyone!
