Yr 11 Biological diversity and ecosystem dynamics

The Year 12 Biology excursion took place at the Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre. During this trip, we were taught how to collect primary data in the field using various tools. Much of the data collected and analysed involved: testing the ph of the soil, measuring wind speed, air temperature, humidity, and many more that allowed us to develop an understanding of the environment around us and the biological and non-biological factors that affect an ecosystem.

By observing nearby burrows, we were able to estimate the number of certain types of marsupials within the area. We proceeded to discover the diversity of the animals in this nature reserve, including  two local bush turkeys.

Throughout this trip, we were given the marvellous experience of first-hand; analysing a diverse ecosystem while having access to a wide range of equipment. This unique experience allowed us to gain a comprehensive understanding of how the subject of biology fits into the world around us and the ways in which we interpret nature.
