Year 7 Advisor Update: Year 7 students have had a busy year, filled with lots of meaningful activities

Mr Johnson, Year 7 Advisor - August 17, 2023

I am pleased to provide you with an overview of the various activities and milestones our Year 7 cohort have experienced so far this year.

Throughout the course of Term 2 and Term 3, our Year 7 students have been actively engaged in a range of meaningful events and experiences that contribute to their holistic development

Photograph Day - 16th February 2023: On this memorable day, our students had the opportunity to capture their journey through schooling with individual photographs. These snapshots serve as lasting mementos, commemorating their growth and achievements for years to come. Students should receive their photographs during this Term.

DHSVAD Cross Country & Bligh Zone Carnival - 10th March 2023: Our students participated with great enthusiasm in the DHSVAD Cross Country. This event not only emphasizes physical activity but also fosters qualities of determination and perseverance. Students that were successful then went to compete in the regional Bligh Zone Athletics Carnival. Notable students who qualified at Bligh Zone include, Maddison Murray-Boney (Javelin), Juniper Shave (High Jump) and Hanako Creber (200 m).

DHSVAD Athletics Carnival - 1st May 2023: The DHSVAD Athletics Carnival is a platform for our students to engage in healthy competition while embracing values such as teamwork, fair play, and responsibility. Regular participation in sports helps cultivate important life skills like discipline, commitment, and hard work. Moreover, it encourages respect for the diverse abilities, strengths, and weaknesses of their peers. Year 7 showed great enthusiasm and participation during this event.

Camp at Broken Bay Recreational Centre - 22nd to 24th May 2023: During their time at the Broken Bay Recreational Centre, our students were immersed in activities that nurtured their communication, decision-making, problem-solving, resilience, team building, and leadership skills. This camp provided an invaluable opportunity for personal growth and developing strong bonds with peers.

Winter Gala Music Concert - 3rd and 4th August 2023: Our students showcased their talents and creativity during the Winter Gala Music Concert. This event was a celebration of dance, drama, music, and the efforts of our Student Representative Council (SRC). It highlighted their artistic abilities and their dedication to making a positive impact on the school community.

Upcoming Events: We have some exciting events on the horizon. Diversity Day and Wear it Purple will be held on the 25th of August. These events emphasize the importance of inclusion, diversity, and acceptance. Following this, we have the Year 7 Gala Day scheduled for the 30th of August, which promises to be a day filled with camaraderie, fun, and memorable experiences. Lastly, the information booklet for students and parents for NE8 Elective Subjects for Year 8 2024 can now be accessed with more information to come very soon.
