On Friday February 24, 60 Year 11 Visual Arts students went to Cockatoo Island to develop their understanding of site-responsive artmaking and also to the Art Gallery of New South Wales, to see the 2022 ArtExpress exhibition. This island is known in the Dharug language as Wareamah, with the Eora peoples having a strong connection to the area before 1839.
On the Island we divided our time between an intensive drawing and mark making workshop with artist Michael Herron, and exploring and drawing the natural environment and the architectural remnants of the site's industrial and convict past.At the AGNSW students learned to understand the qualities of successful HSC bodies of work and enjoy these diverse and striking works. Best day out ever, Year 11 🙂Ms Pegrum, Ms O'Callaghan and Ms Watts, Year 11 VA teachers
