Year 10 students take on the Black Dog Institute's Mental Fitness Program

Ms Mora, Student Support Officer —

This term our year 10 students participated in an interactive Mental Fitness program which was facilitated by elite athlete Giorgia Patten.

The Black Dog Institute and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) partnered to deliver a unique program aimed at building the mental health, wellbeing, and resilience of young Australians.

During the program which was facilitated by elite athlete Giorgia Patten students, Year 10 students learned about:

● the importance of mental fitness

● practical ways to build their mental strengths, flexibility, and endurance

● take part in activities that can help improve overall wellbeing and resilience

● practice and discuss ways to implement these strategies into their everyday life

Black Dog Institute has reported that 50% of all mental health problems emerge during adolescence, and these can have lifelong consequences and believe that prevention is better than cure. Mental fitness is about training the brain to deal with daily stresses without feeling overwhelmed, upset, or worried.
