Year 8 mustard seed experiment

Ms Kapeliotis, Head Teacher Science —

Over a period of 15 days, we conducted an experiment which revealed to us the best conditions for the germination of mustard seeds.

The procedure included four different pots with a small pinch of mustard seeds planted over a variety of conditions. Two of the pots were placed in the shade and two were placed in a sunny position. Half were watered every lesson at 5 mL and the others for 10 mL.
We discovered that those that were placed in the sun grew healthier, taller and fuller than the ones placed in the shade. Those that were watered at 10 mL also grew faster than those watered at 5 mL.

It was a fun experiment observing and recording the growth of our plants.
