'Wright of Passage' Support Unit External Agency Activities

The students in the Support Unit have continued to build their collaborative relationship with the sailing group Making Waves Foundation. 

Our student, Merdo, is engaged in the 'Wright of Passage' post school program. It has given him a unique opportunity to become involved in an inspirational, life changing project that can allow progress into various trade apprenticeships. 

Merdo is learning about tools, joinery and woodworking skills in the boating industry.

Merdo is undertaking a Certificate 2 in Boating Services which is equivalent to Stage 1 Trade Certificate. 

He attends Making Waves on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Woolwich Dock and Rushcutters Bay. 

Merdo first engaged in the program on a Sailing Day when he was 14. The staff at Making Waves identified Merdo as a prospective candidate for the program but he had to wait until he turned 16. 

He is now a fully fledged member of the program and is attending every day.
