LOTE - Japanese

Ms J Kim, Teacher. LOTE —

Fine tuned our communication skills to describe our daily activities, skills and abilities in relation to ‘part-time jobs’ - all in Japanese

This semester, the LOTE Faculty has continued to work on developing the Japanese listening, talking, and reading skills of our Dulwich High students.

In Year 7 and 8, students have been learning how to express their daily activities in Japanese, as well as what they do during the weekends and on holidays.

Year 9 students have been working on their communication skills regarding the past-time activity of shopping.

Year 10 students have been studying the topic ‘part-time jobs’. They learnt a range of vocabulary and the potential form of verbs to explain their skills and abilities. Students have also discussed the similarities and differences when it comes to the motivation for working, the types of work and how money is spent.

Eight, Year 12 students have also undertaken their HSC examinations which included dedicating one Saturday in late September to complete their speaking task. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of all these students and wish them the best for their future academic pursuits.

At the start of Term 4 we have also had the good fortune of welcoming Mr Lee to the LOTE Faculty. Mr Lee brings with him a vast experience in teaching Japanese both within Sydney schools and internationally. His students are enjoying developing their Japanese skills with the energy and exciting learning activities that Mr Lee brings to his classroom.

Messages written by students

I enjoyed learning Japanese at school. I like learning the skills of asking time and answering questions because it opens opportunities to travel to Japan and communicate in Japanese. – Yr 8, Grace E

During Term 4, Unit 4,  Japanese we learnt a bunch of things. We learnt verbs, the time, places, transport and a few more things. I mostly enjoyed learning verbs because it increased my vocabulary. – Yr 8 Ioanna S
