Mr Scovell, Head Teacher Mathematics — March 9, 2025
The Mathematics Faculty is excited to welcome students to a new year of learning, problem-solving, and discovery, whether you're just starting high school or preparing for your final exams.
Essential Resources for Success
In all Mathematics classes, students will be using the CASIO FX-82 Plus calculator, an essential tool for calculations and problem-solving. Additionally, all students have access to MATHSPACE, an interactive online textbook that provides lessons, practice exercises, and instant feedback. Each Mathematics classroom is also connected through Google Classroom, where students can find class resources, assignments, and links to MATHSPACE. Google Classroom codes are available from your teacher—be sure to join and stay updated!
Upcoming Important Dates
Students should mark their calendars for NAPLAN testing, which will take place in March (12-24 March). This is an important assessment for students, and we encourage practice to build confidence leading up to the test. Students will have to download a special lockdown browser onto their BYOD for the test. The link to download the lockdown browser can be found here.
Developing Problem-Solving Skills
For our Year 7 students, we emphasise the IDEA strategy (Identify, Develop, Evaluate, and Assess) to strengthen problem-solving skills. This structured approach helps students break down complex problems into manageable steps, fostering confidence and logical thinking.
Best Wishes to Our Year 12 Students
Finally, we would like to extend our best wishes to our Year 12 students as they embark on their final year of Mathematics studies. Stay focused, keep practising, and make the most of the support available to you. We are confident that your hard work will lead to success!
We look forward to an exciting and productive year in Mathematics. Let’s make it a great one! Here are our fantastic Year 12 students in action.
