Starting Strong: Year 7’s First Weeks at School

From their very first day, our Year 7 cohort 2025, have embraced high school life with enthusiasm, quickly becoming confident in their surroundings and making their way to classes with ease, forging new friendships and getting to grips with their new timetable.

Most students are now successfully connected to the school WiFi on their devices and have access to Google Classroom—if anyone is still experiencing difficulties or does not have access to a device, please come and see me in the HSIE Staffroom for assistance.

Our recent Swimming Carnival was a highlight, and it was wonderful to see so many Year 7 students participating with real enthusiasm. Whether competing in the pool or cheering from the side-lines, students made the most of the day, demonstrating exemplary behaviour and showing great school spirit. Well done to everyone who participated!

As we settle into the term, students will begin receiving homework and assessments. I encourage them to use their school diaries to stay organised—these will also be needed for homeroom and mentoring sessions. Developing good study habits early will set them up for success.

Looking ahead, we have some exciting events on the horizon. Harmony Day is coming up in Week 9, where students will be invited to dress in cultural attire to celebrate diversity. More details will be shared via Sentral soon.

In Term 2, Year 7 Camp will be a fantastic opportunity for students to bond with their peers in a new environment. Planning is well underway, and further information will be provided in the coming weeks.

Finally, I want to thank our Year 7 students, as well as their parents and carers, for becoming part of the Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design community. I look forward to getting to know each of you and supporting your growth throughout your journey at our school.
