Dunedin Heritage Fund January funding round
The latest round of Dunedin Heritage Fund (DHF) applications closed on 31 October, with sixteen applications totalling $444,000 received.
The Heritage Fund Committee were able to partially fund 14 of the applications, allocating approximately $220,000 to these. Successful projects included the Imperial and Commerce Buildings on Dowling Street ($25,000 each towards re-roofing), the Wingatui Signal Box ($20,000 for foundation repairs), and Iona Church in Port Chalmers ($30,000 for repairs of the stained glass windows). The funded projects represent a significant financial investment in historic buildings across Dunedin, together worth more than $1.3m dollars.
The upgrade of the former UFS Pharmacy Building at 160 King Edward Street in South Dunedin is nearing completion and almost ready for its new occupants. The DHF provided a grant in 2021 to assist the property owner with structural strengthening, roof replacement, and restoration of the street façade. Alongside the recently restored Duke’s Building at nearby Cargills Corner (also assisted by the DHF), the former UFS Pharmacy is a quality contribution to the historic streetscape along King Edward Street.
The next round of the Heritage Fund closes on 31 January 2023. DCC welcomes enquiries from the owners of heritage buildings who are planning to undertake works in the next two years.
