Completed Knox Block - Retail Quarter Upgrade

TOTALLY GEORGEOUS UPDATE

Dunedin City Council —

The Knox Row Block has been completed!

The transformation of Dunedin’s Retail Quarter has reached another significant milestone with the completion of upgrade work on George Street’s Knox Row. The block re-opened to two-way traffic last month – two months ahead of schedule. Our focus is now on upgrading George Street’s Malls Block and Edinburgh Way, as well as parts of Hanover and St Andrew Streets.

Remember, there’s still plenty of car parking available in the parking buildings around George Street, so we encourage people to keep supporting local retailers and businesses. The upgrade aims to renew underground infrastructure, improve safety and accessibility, and enhance he amenity of the area.

As part of the upgrade, pavers in George Street are being progressively replaced. Rather than disposing of the old pavers, we are providing them for use in projects which have positive community and/or environmental outcomes.

The Corstorphine Community Hub is one of the latest projects to benefit from the re-use of old pavers from George Street. Pavers were used to help landscape the Hub’s community garden and surrounding area. Paving is also being used to lead to a memorial bench, making the area safer for users. Isaac Construction – the main Retail Quarter Upgrade contractor – and players from The Highlanders also pitched in with free labour to assist with site works at the Hub.
