Weka with the support of Synergy Wellness and Dunedin City Council are proud to announce Mental Health Work Shops

Presented by Matthew Peppercorn, a Registered Mental Health Nurse with over twenty-five years experience.

Compassionate Career Fatigue

Date: Wednesday 17 February

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Venue: Synergy Wellness Rooms, 150D Kaikorai Valley Road

Understand compassion and its effects. Learn about the symptoms and causes of fatigue in a carers role and the importance of supervision roles. Learn how to support and manage workers suffering fatigue. Revisit work boundaries fatigue and look how to form relapse plans for carers.

This session is aimed at educating carers at all levels of experience.

Anger Management

Date: Wednesday 24 February

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Venue: Synergy Wellness Rooms, 150D Kaikorai Valley Road

What is anger? Learn the biology of anger and how to manage and control tempers with both internal and external controls and recognise the early warning signs. Discover what the trigger signs to look out for are? Understand the difference between anger, anxiety, and fear. Gain insight into mindfulness and Sensory Modulation (the ways of calming senses). Create an Anger Management Plan with support options.

Depression

Date: Wednesday 3 March

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Venue: Synergy Wellness Rooms, 150D Kaikorai Valley Road

Gain an understanding of depression and how it feels. Study high functioning depression and the symptoms that arise, including the factors around substance abuse and the stigma around depression. Learn to identify the risks and the differences between sadness and depression and the differences between self-harm and suicide intentions. The best ways to help yourself and others using the Te Whare Tapa Model.

Understanding and Prevent Self-harm and Suicide in your Community

Self-harm and suicide are serious problems in New Zealand.  This evidence based, best practice workshop will empower you to help a young person who is self-harming or suicidal.
