Processing delays
We are still dealing with impacts resulting from the record number of building consent applications received over the last few months.
However, contrary to recent media reports, “Council red tape” is not to blame and we’re not ‘stopping the clock’ just to buy time.
We are required to follow the processes set in the Building Act, and audited regularly to make sure we do.
Unfortunately, close to 70% of all applications we receive are incomplete, and the Act requires us to ‘stop the clock’ when we need to seek more information.
While the average time to grant a building consent is about 16 working days there are still a number of consents going over the statutory 20 working days.
We are aware this can cause project delays and frustration. Please be patient – we’re working as fast as we can to catch up.
Note, booking times for a building inspection is currently about 7 days.
