Site Inspection Tips

Building Services Team —

Important tips to help your site inspection run smoothly.

At various stages during construction, you will need to arrange inspections to verify the building work complies with the conditions of the building consent and building code.

Inspections are project specific and identified during the consent processing stage. A list of required inspections is included with the issued building consent and you need to book these as each stage of the work is being completed. It is possible that further inspections are necessary depending on the nature of the work.

It is important to have all the approved documents on-site before the site inspector arrives. This includes (but not limited to):

  • All the approved plans and specifications

  • The project information memorandum or project consideration summary

  • The Building Consent (officially known as the Form 5)

  • All Building Consent attachments (e.g. site inspections record, specified system list)

  • Any approved amendments/minor variations

An inspection will not proceed if these are not available.

If the consent is issued to you electronically, please make sure all the plans and specifications are printed in a size the inspector can read.

Access must be provided to all the areas that are to be inspected. Ladders that are provided by the owner/agent should comply with relevant New Zealand Standards.
