Short and Sweet
The Mosgiel-Taieri Community have the opportunity to vote on who will fill the vacant position on the community board, and the latest round of Biodiversity Funding is now open.
MOSGIEL-TAIERI BY-ELECTION
The Mosgiel-Taieri community can soon have their say on who fills a vacancy on the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board, following the recent death of board member Brian Miller.
Voting in a by-election to fill the vacancy will begin on Thursday, 14 September 2023 and close at noon on Friday, 6 October 2023. There is a group of five candidates wanting to serve their area. They are:
- Austen Banks
- Trish McCarthy
- Rebecca Shepherd
- Amy Taylor
- Kimberlee Wallace (Independent)
Now is the opportunity for the community to have its say and elect the newest member. All eligible voters are encouraged to cast their vote. Voting will be by postal vote, with special voting available at the Mosgiel Library, and the Dunedin Civic Centre. Voting papers will be mailed out from 14 September.
The elected candidate will be determined using the Single Transferable Voting (STV) electoral system. All enrolled residents from the Mosgiel-Taieri community over the age of 18 can vote.
BIODIVERSITY FUNDING
Calling all those keen to protect and enhance Dunedin’s native biodiversity!
Applications for the latest round of the DCC’s Biodiversity Fund are open from 1 September until 30 September. The fund is aimed at local landowners and groups with ‘on the ground’ biodiversity projects.
There is up to $5000 available for each applicant on a 50/50 cost share basis between successful applicants and the Dunedin City Council. Volunteer labour can be used as part of the contribution to a project. This means if groups are willing to put in the work, then we can fund the goods needed, including plants, traps, herbicide, and fencing, and some contractor costs.
More information can be found on our website. Give us a call on (03) 477 4000 to chat to our Biodiversity Advisor about your project and how we may be able to help.
