DCC City Development —

Councillor Sophie Barker has been appointed the new Chair of the Dunedin Heritage Fund.

Dunedin Heritage Fund

The Fund committee met on 19th November to decide the Round 2 grant applications. Nine applications were received for a wide variety of heritage projects. Grants were awarded for restoration and repair work to several historic churches (including Mary Queen of Peace in Broad Bay and St Mary Star of the Sea in Port Chalmers) and various privately-owned heritage buildings.

The Heritage Fund can provide incentive funding for a wide range of works including:

  • Essential repairs, stabilisation or core structural works.
  • Restoration projects.
  • Upgrades to code/regulation standards to enable contemporary use of heritage places, e.g. fire, earthquake, access provisions.
  • Specific “like with like” material replacement/maintenance projects that protect the integrity of heritage buildings (e.g. slate or timber shingle roofing; copper gutters/downpipes; wooden joinery; stained glass; stonework; pressed tin ceilings; etc)
  • Preparation of heritage conservation plans.

Further information can be found on the Dunedin City Council website.

The next funding round (3) closes on 31st January 2021. If you have any queries about making an application please contact the Heritage Advisor at heritage@dcc.govt.nz or 03 477 4000.
