Park & ride trial red hot success

DCC Events —

January's Red Hot Chili Peppers concert provided a perfect opportunity to trial a free 'park & ride' service in the lead up to FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The DCC Events team successfully trialled the park & ride service, with more than 100 cars parking at the Victoria Road Car Park (next to the Dunedin Ice Stadium) and more than 650 passengers used the free buses to reach a temporary bus stop on Wickliffe Street.

This helped reduce traffic congestion around Forsyth Barr Stadium. Bus passengers also included some South Dunedin residents and out-of-town concert-goers who walked to the car park to catch the bus.

The Events team welcomed the new passengers, getting the vibe going for the concert by playing Red Hot Chili Peppers hits as they arrived for the bus. Everyone was in a positive mood for the event and were pleased the new service was being offered.

Following comments from passengers who completed our feedback survey (and went into a draw for a $150 Music Lovers Prize pack), improvements will be made for the upcoming Rod Stewart and Cindy Lauper concert on Wednesday, 5 April.

A second trial park & ride will be offered from St Kilda, with an added service from Mosgiel.
