Let's Deal With It: A Trans-Tasman Conference towards Racial Equity

Date: Friday 14 June

Time: 8.00 am - 5.00 am

Venue: Mt Eden War Memorial, Auckland

Cost: Free

Following the Christchurch massacre of March 15, 2019, a wider social awakening has occurred, recognising the pressing need to forge unity amidst our diversity. We want to create a safe platform to establish an open dialogue between Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand to help build a society free of prejudice, racism and hate-based crime.

This is a free conference that will bring together a range of communities of all ethnicities and colour, leaders (including MPs from New Zealand and Australia), thinkers and strategists who are well-versed in the issues that will be discussed. The panel sessions and and workshops include:

  1. Trans-Tasman collaboration towards racial equity
  2. Extremism and Radicalisation
  3. The role of the media in promoting racial harmony
  4. Migrant and refugee women’s leadership to promote integration
  5. Ethnic communities and human rights

Dine Dunedin: A celebration of great food throughout the city

From Friday 21 June to Sunday 7 July 2019, we’re celebrating the food and drink that give Dunedin its special flavour. Embrace the wintery evenings and support the city’s vibrant local food culture by dining in our restaurants and cafes. Dine Dunedin and taste and hear the stories of the city’s passionate food and drink heroes. All the details can be found on their website

The Centre for Global Migrations is co-hosting the following events in relation to Behrouz Boochani

The Kurdish-Iranian refugee and journalist who is imprisoned on Manus Island. Please feel free to come along as well as share the information and posters with your networks.

The 2019 WriteNow Poetry Competition

The 2019 WriteNow Poetry Competition for Dunedin secondary school students is open for entries. This year's competition will be judged by acclaimed poet and novelist Fiona Farrell.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Dunedin's young poets to get their voices out there, and win some great prizes. A win or placing in this competition brings these accomplished writers to the attention of a much wider audience, and helps launch a new generation of confident creative thinkers.

This year's important dates:

· Competition closes 5.00 pm, Friday 26 July 2019

· Results released Monday 19 August 2019 on the WriteNow website

James Cameron - Challenging the Deep

Otago Museum is thrilled to announce that exclusively in New Zealand, the exhibition James Cameron - Challenging the Deep will be gracing Otago Museum's Special Exhibition gallery from 21 July!

Developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney, in collaboration with the Avatar Alliance Foundation, James Cameron – Challenging the Deep takes visitors to the depths of our oceans through the lenses of Cameron’s underwater cameras, and his other incredible technological innovations that have made it possible to explore some of the most mysterious parts of our planet.
