What is a complete application?
Before submitting an application or providing information, please take the time to make sure all of the information is relevant, correct and complete.
Whether the application is for a building consent or code compliance certificate there is still a requirement for it to be complete before we can accept it for processing. Incomplete applications cause delays. Application documents must be legible and plans drawn to a relevant scale.
Complete building consent application
Firstly, get a building consent application pack specific for your project online from the DCC website.
Checklists, included in the application pack, will assist you with the preparation of your application; they ensure that the right information and documentation is provided with your building consent application.
Depending on the scope of work, you may be required to submit supporting documentation such as:
Site and drainage plans and specifications
Floor plans for each level, cross sections
Foundation designs
Elevations with ground lines, finished floor levels & height planes shown
Roof, wall, floor and sub floor framing and bracing designs
Impervious surface information
Producer statements, design certificates
Risk matrix
Design memorandum for restricted building work or statutory declarations for home owner exemptions
Relevant construction detail (flashings, connections, bracing calculations, cladding information, truss & barrier designs)
Smoke alarm information
Fire report
Heater and flue instructions (solid fuel burners)
Specified system forms (completed) with supporting performance standards, inspection, maintenance and reporting procedures
If you are not familiar with building plans and compliance with the Building Code you may need to engage a design professional to supply the required drawings and information and apply for a building consent on your behalf.
The application form, also included in the pack, must be completed in full and all the relevant information provided.
Guidance on how to complete an application form is available online.
Useful information about applying for a building consent can be downloaded from the Ministry of Business Innovation & Employment (MBIE) website.
