Heritage News
Work is underway on assessing new additions to the Heritage Schedule to be considered for the next ‘minor improvements’ plan variation, Variation 3, which is due to be formally initiated this year.
The proposed additions have mainly been identified through ad hoc public nominations and development proposal issues.
The reinstatement of
the Dunedin Causeway into the Wall Street Mall has been completed successfully.
Dunedin Heritage Fund
The Dunedin Heritage Fund Committee allocated $291,000 in heritage grants in the May funding round. The heritage projects supported in this round will create an estimated investment of almost $1.5 million in heritage work across the city.
These projects support adaptive re-use, restoration, conservation repairs and upgrades to both commercial and residential heritage buildings, and support some of the city’s challenging, long-term heritage sites such as the Priory and Cargill’s Castle. The Fund was also able to support the Middlemarch Museum’s long-term community project to protect the unique Platypus Submarine mining relic.
The Heritage Fund provides incentive grants for a wide range of works including repairs, conservation and restoration of heritage buildings and structures, structural and seismic strengthening, and the preparation of technical reports, condition surveys and conservation plans.
The Fund has four rounds a year and is accessible to all eligible heritage building owners. The next round of the Heritage Fund closes on 31st October. Details, including how to apply, are available on the Dunedin City Council website. Please note, the Fund is not able to support work already underway prior to application.
Please contact the DCC’s Heritage Advisor for an informal chat about your project and how the Fund may be able to assist. Email heritage@dcc.govt.nz or phone 477-4000.
