St Clair beach ramp to be improved

Work on the St Clair Surf Life Saving Club ramp will help improve access to the beach.

Concrete panels will be installed above the ramp at the eastern end of the sea wall, providing easier access to the beach during the winter months when large waves erode the area above the current ramp. The new panels will be largely covered by sand for the summer months.

Tom Dyer says the effects of coastal erosion, including large swells, are having an impact on access to the beach from the ramp and it’s important this access is not compromised.

“The St Clair Surf Life Saving Club play an important role in the safety of swimmers at St Clair and their ability to access the beach in an emergency is critical.”

The work is scheduled to start on Tuesday 15 October and is expected to take approximately one to two days. The ramp will be closed to the public during this time, but attempts will be made to keep the access above the sand sausages open.
